It is well-known that candidates in elections try and buy votes by literally distributing cash. They also use other enticements.Sometimes they provide free liquor. Sometimes they hold parties, often before the Election Commission s model code of conduct kicks in, so that the expenses incurred do not form part of the statement of accounts to be submitted to election officers, as mandated by election laws.These have been standard practices in India.These form violations, and when they are detected, they are acted upon by the official machinery and taken to civil court. The punishment is often disqualification of a candidate if he or she wins an election by proven dubious means or debarment from participation in electoral tests for specified periods.Normally, booth capturing, impersonating a voter and preventing others from voting constitute crimes where the first action is not an FIR but police intervention. We have to see if that turns into disenchantment and the voter kicks the candidate out instead.Three, to cut down on expenses, instead of mutton in the biryani served to prospective voters,
