Upscale restaurant in Beijing shuts down under frugality drive

One chain store of Shanghai Meilinge, an old high-end restaurant located near some state organs in Beijing, closed business on May 7th owing to severe losses since the beginning of the anti-extravagance campaign last November.

The downsized government banquets and plummeting sales of deluxe food such as sea cucumbers and abalone have seen the sharp revenue shrinkage, which makes it unable to continue business, said some staff member of the restaurant.
