A retired policeman in northeastern Dalian, Liaoning province, has asked the government to disclose the expenditures of mounted policewomen in the coastal city.

The policeman named Zhao Ming filed the application on the local government’s website on May 26. According to the website, Zhao’s application was accepted and was in process.

“The ‘mounted policemen’ was a vanity project that costs huge government spending,” Zhao said.

“The city’s police force was in shortage of both funds and manning quotas. Besides, horses were less efficient and practical than motorcycles or bicycles,” Zhao explained.

Zhao also questioned the expense of purchasing and raising the bloodstock, urging the government to respond to his request without delay.

He added that if the mounted policemen were designed as a unique tourism sight in the city, the tourism bureau rather than the police department should bear the expenses.
